Expanding foams are used in a wide variety of applications. Common uses include:
- insulating walls
- filling gaps and cracks
- sealing around windows and doors
- soundproofing and waterproofing
- filling voids below concrete
Tips for using Expanding Foams
When using expanding foams, it is important to:
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and a face mask. The chemicals in the foam can be hazardous if inhaled or absorbed through the skin.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions
- Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Avoid skin contact with the foam and use a solvent to clean up any spillage.
- Check the expiration date before using the product
- Avoid using expanding foams near open flame
We offer expanding foams that have been designed to impede the spread of flames, such as the Nullifire FF197 Fire-Rated PU Foam. This product is a modified, single-component, fire-rated polyurethane foam, which is ideal to seal near gaps throughout fire-rated areas in a building.
Tiger Supplies’ range of Expanding Foams
We recommend the Everbuild B2 FireFoam Expanding Foam, which conforms to DIN 4102 Part 1 / BS 476 Part 20 for construction materials. This is a quick-setting foam with fire-resistance properties. This product has a high degree of fire rating slowing down the passage of flames and smoke.
The foam expands on application 1.5 - 2 times its original volume. Once cured, the foam can be cut, sawn or plastered over after just one hour providing the working temperatures are between +5°C to +25°C.
You can use the Everbuild B2 FireFoam Expanding Foam for:
- filling gaps around pipe entries, gaps around window and door frames
- fixing door frames, timber structures, window sills & thresholds and window frames.
- foam insulation behind the exterior walls.
Another excellent product is the Fischer B1 FireStop Expanding Foam. We recommend you use it to bond to all standard building materials. It provides up to 4 hours of fire resistance and has been found to comply with the following standards:
- BS476:Part 20 (linear gap sealing)
- BS EN 1366-4:2006
- Warrington Fire Research Report 13492C
- B1 fire classification DIN 4102 part 1
- EN1366 part 4
- BS476 part 20.
At Tiger Supplies, you also have the option of buying Multi Buy Bundles of Expanding Foam, such as the B2 Expanding Foam. This product is easy to use. It is one component expanding polyurethane foam filler that cures rapidly and has excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties.
It can expand 35 to 40 times its initial volume and has great adhesion on most construction materials. Use it for thermal and acoustic insulation around doors and window frames, pipe penetrations, insulation and roofing materials and general construction.
